Sharon Toribio. Audiovisual artist who focuses on experimental fiction. From 1993 to 1995 she studied at the Department of Television and Video at the University of Guadalajara and from 1995 to 1997 at the Audiovisual Art Centre. Aside of her professional studies, she has participated in numerous workshops and seminars. Her talent was recognized by the FONCA (National Fund for Culture and Art) who awarded her with the Young Creators Scholarship on 1997-98, 2001-03, and with the Audiovisual Production Support on 2007.
Among her most distinguished short films there is "Juego de Niñas" (Girls Game) that in 2008 received Honors at the Cinesul Festiva in Rio de Janeiro, and was shown in the XXII Gudalajara's Film Festival, Habana´s International Film Festival, European Media Art Festival in germany, among other festivals.
"El Gusanito" 2002 (The Little Worm), was selected for the show "Projections in the Air: a review of Mexican videos and films" at Guggenheim Museum in New York; and "Cita a las Nueve" 1997 (Date at Nine o'clock) received honors at the 1st Electronic Art festival VID@ARTE. In 2009 "Tiempos del sueño" won First Place in the Female Sessions short film contest, and with her short film for web "One Hell of the Party" she won in the website for short films Filmka.com and was selected to participate at jury level.
She is part of the curatorship of Fernando Llanos and Alfredo Salomon "Cooperativa de Arte en Video" (Video Art Cooperative) that has been exhibited in countries like Germany, Spain, Colombia, among others. She has created the visuals for scenic works like the opera Dido and Eneas, and some theater plays. She is currently working on a feature film project.
